ONYX is expanding its new OZO brand outside Thailand. After OZO Hong Kong, the company will open its first property in Malaysia, in the heart of Georgetown.

Thailand-based ONYX Hospitality Group has announced a new project under its OZO brand in Penang, Malaysia.  OZO is a new hotel brand created around a core concept, offering less frills and more control, it provides guests with quality services that count and amenities they actually want, enabling them to maximise their time on the road.

Located on the edge of the UNESCO heritage site in the centre of Georgetown, OZO Penang will be the first OZO property in Malaysia. Scheduled to welcome its first guests in 2016, the property will offer 132 sleep inducing guest rooms and all the other signatures for which the quirky select service brand is gaining its reputation, including ‘Talk’ meetings rooms, an ‘O2Go’ grab and go outlet, ‘Eat’, the place to go for breakfast and grazing all day and fitness centre ‘Tone’.

OZO is the latest brand from ONYX Hospitality Group, known for its upscale Amari brand in Thailand and the Middle East. OZO’s philosophy is all about delivering restful nights, energising mornings, and all the tools to offer on-the-go guests a quality experience without all the fuss. Practical yet stylish accommodation exceeds mid-market expectations offering value and comfort for travellers looking for insider experiences, combined with good connectivity and a great sleep, revitalising the idea of smart travel.

Commenting on the new deal, President and CEO of ONYX Hospitality Group, Peter Henley said:

“Our entry into Malaysia with OZO Penang marks a key step in our development for the OZO brand, and indeed the overall ONYX expansion.  2015 marks an important year in the ASEAN region, with the AEC set to take centre stage through the free flow of business, tourism and investment across AEC borders. As a Thai company we are excited to be launching our first property in Malaysia, our direct neighbour. We acknowledge the importance of expansion within the AEC region and we look forward to developing further ONYX branded projects in Malaysia in the very near future.”

Since the OZO brand was launched in 2009, a number of key projects have been announced. The first ever OZO property opened in Hong Kong in May 2013 and further management agreements have been signed for projects in Thailand and Sri Lanka.
ONYX Hospitality Group operates four diverse yet complementary brands – Saffron, Amari, Shama and OZO – each catering to the distinctive requirements of today’s business and leisure travellers. ONYX reaches beyond its Thai roots to offer innovative management solutions across the Indian Ocean, Arabian Gulf and Asia-Pacific regions.
