Vietnam arrivals surge 41% in July

Vietnam experienced a sharp rise in its international visitor arrivals last month.

According to new data from the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT), the country welcomed 846,311 arrivals in July 2016 – 41.2% more than in the same month last year.

The influx was driven by mainland China and South Korea – Vietnam’s two largest visitor source markets. Arrivals from China almost doubled, surging 93.3% to 263,971, while Korean visitor numbers jumped 60.0% to 116,960. Combined, these two countries accounted for 45% of total arrivals to Vietnam last month.

Other major source markets also experienced strong double-digit growth, including Thailand (+54.0% to 17,865), Russia (+33.2% to 28,883) and Malaysia (+22.0% to 26,376).

For the first seven months of the year, Vietnam has now welcomed a total of 5.55 million international visitors, up 24.0% compared to the same period in 2015. 4.66m of those visitors arrived by air, marking a 28.7% year-on-year increase.
