Six new openings in four countries to expand total portfolio to 40 properties
Onyx Hospitality Group has said it plans to open six more Asian hotels in 2014, as it moves towards a portfolio milestone of 40 properties.
Following the recent launch of the Grand Pujian Residence in Shanghai and Amari Buriram United in northeast Thailand, Bangkok-based Onyx confirmed that it now plans to debut its upscale Amari brand in the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka and open a new Shama property in Hangzhou, as well as expanding its Ozo brand to four locations across two countries: Koh Samui, Pattaya in Thailand, and Kandy and Colombo in Sri Lanka.
These are expected to increase Onyx’s total global portfolio to more than 40 hotels and serviced residences by the end of 2014.
“We are excited about celebrating this milestone year as we gear up to surpass our 40th hotel opening,” said Onyx’s president & CEO, Peter Henley.
“With the recent openings of Grand Pujian Residence in Shanghai, China and Amari Buriram United in the northeast of Thailand, together with an additional six properties scheduled to open in 2014, our strong growth demonstrates our commitment to achieving our 2018 target to become one of Asia’s leading hospitality groups,” he added.
The 101-unit Shama Heda Hangzhou and 208-room Ozo Chaweng Samui are expected to lead the expansion, when the two properties open later this month. The second quarter of 2014 will then see the launch of the 158-room Ozo Colombo and 170-room Ozo Pattaya, and the 134-room Amari Dhaka and 128-room Ozo Kandy are expected to welcome their first guests before the end of the year.
Onyx currently operates 35 hotels with an inventory of more than 5,000 rooms.
