Accor to hire 30,000 staff in Asia Pacific

Hotelier aims to increase regional headcount by 50% over next three years.

Accor is on a major recruitment drive in Asia Pacific, with the aim of hiring more than 30,000 new staff over the next three years.

The European hotel company said it expects to add 10,000 jobs per year as its regional portfolio expands rapidly, “amidst industry staff shortages”. This would mark a 50% increase in its regional headcount. Accor already employs close to 60,000 people in the region, across its portfolio of 550 hotels across 16 countries.

The biggest recruitment drives will be seen in China, Indonesia and India, but Accor said it is seeking new joiners across all countries, including Singapore, Thailand, Japan and South Korea. Demand for new staff is being driven by the rapid growth of Accor’s portfolio – the company expects to add an estimated 250 hotels over the next three years, taking its total portfolio to approximately 800 hotels.

“The profiles we are looking for are mainly entry level staff for our front office, food & beverage, kitchen and housekeeping departments,” said Patrick Ollivier, Accor’s senior vice president of human resources for Asia Pacific. “But we are also recruiting experts to join our sales, distribution, marketing, finance and HR teams and experienced hoteliers to manage our hotels.

“There are numerous opportunities for young, passionate and experienced professionals looking to embark on an exciting adventure and a real career path,” he added.

And in an effort to train this huge volume of new joiners, Accor has created a series of new hotel schools – Academie Accor. Seventeen Academie Accor training campuses are currently operating around the world, offering more than 250 training modules for Accor staff.

“As the benchmark in the industry, Accor is known to develop its staff and there are many success stories within the group who have proven that determination, talent and training can take Accor staff far,” said Estelle Cuerq, Accor’s regional manager for talent acquisition & recognition.
